FRRC Partners With Orlando Magic Organization to Celebrate Desmond Meade Day With
Day of Service in Orange County

This year’s Desmond Meade Day will highlight the importance of giving back to individuals
experiencing homelessness and ensuring they have a secure place to vote.

ORLANDO, FLSeptember 8, 2023 — On Sunday, September 10, the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC) will celebrate “Desmond Meade Day” with a community service activity in Orange County and will announce a new voting initiative. In 2019, Orange County Mayor Demings designated September 10 as Desmond Meade Day for all of Mr. Meade’s hard work and commitment to ensuring the voting rights of all Floridians.

“It is an honor to have a day named after me,” said FRRC Executive Director Desmond Meade. “But it is even more important to me that everyone has access to democracy.”

Desmond Meade Day will kick off with a day of service at the Christian Service Center in Orlando. FRRC staff and volunteers will be providing meals to individuals experiencing homelessness. FRRC has also partnered with the Orlando Magic, who will be at the event to commemorate this special day. FRRC chose this location because we are also working to get it to be an approved voting poll location so individuals experiencing homelessness have a safe place to vote if they choose.

Executive Director Desmond Meade and Deputy Director Neil Volz will also be available for interviews. The Supervisor of Elections will also be at the event.

Agenda:

Date: Sunday, September 10, 2023

Place: Christian Service Center Address: 808 W Central Blvd, Orlando, FL 32805

Time: 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
