Legal costs should never be a barrier to justice. Attorneys who provide pro bono legal support know this best. These lawyers are essential to ensuring our constitutional right to legal counsel and a fair trial for everyone, no matter our ability to pay. For most of Florida’s 1.4 million returning citizens, having access to pro bono legal support is the only pathway to restoring their voting rights.
The time spent helping returning citizens to be able to vote is time well spent. FRRC and a professional legal team support pro bono attorneys so they can focus on clearing the path for returning citizens’ right to vote, working with them to help them get their fines and fees waived or modified to community service.
In 2018, Florida voters made clear their wish that returning citizens be granted their right to vote by voting in favor of Amendment 4. As an attorney or law student, you have the skills and experience to help make the voters’ intentions a reality. Join FRRC as a pro bono attorney to help returning citizens regain their right to vote and become a champion for democracy.
- Time commitment is less than 10 hours per case.
- A Florida legal license is preferred (but not required for case research work).
- FRRC provides internship opportunities for law students to prepare case files.
- Attorneys are provided with onboarding documents and completed case research, which are ready for them to file.
- Lawyers will be connected with an individual client based on their judicial circuit, go to court to try and modify their sentence, and celebrate with the client if they succeed!
